Colonel Charles Lampe enlisted into the United States Army Reserve in March 1993 as an infantry scout. Then, in April 1995, he joined the Iowa Army National Guard as a Black Hawk Helicopter repairer. He later attended Officer Candidate School (OCS), graduating in the summer of 1999 as an Aviation Officer. COL Lampe has served in numerous command and leadership positions to include Training Officer, 109th Aviation Regiment; Officer in Charge (OIC), 248th Aviation Support Battalion; Logistics Management Officer / Test Pilot, AASF#1; and Facility Commander, AASF#1, Commander, 67th Troop Command, and Director of Army Aviation and Safety. He currently serves as the Chief of Staff for the Iowa Army National Guard.

COL Lampe is a Master Army Aviator with over 3000 total flight hours and is qualified to operate six different airframes, including the TH-67 Bell Jet Ranger, the OH-58A/C Scout Helicopter, the AH-6C Little-Bird helicopter, the UH-60A/L Blackhawk helicopter, the UH-60M Blackhawk helicopter, and the C-12U King Air airplane.

His awards include: The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Service Medal with Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hour Glass, M Device; Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO Medal, Federal Humanitarian Service Ribbon, Master Army Aviator Badge; and the Air Crewman Badge. His state awards include the Iowa Commendation Medal; Iowa National Guard Humanitarian Service Ribbon; Iowa Leadership Ribbon with Torch; Force Support Package Ribbon; and the North Dakota Emergency Service Ribbon.

COL Lampe received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Simpson College, a Masters in Collaborative Education from Graceland University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is married to Amber Lampe and has three children, Ella (21), Josie (19), and Lucas (17) and resides in Grimes IA.
