Iowa National Guard - Service to your State and Country
The National Guard has a unique mission. We are a reserve component of the military, meaning that we are ready to serve anywhere in the world when our Nation calls. We are also the only service that can be called upon by our Governor in times of State emergencies.
Here in Iowa, the National Guard has been called to action during and after natural disasters such as fire, flood, tornadoes, and snow storms.
The National Guard is different. Our Soldiers serve part-time, and in
the communities in which they live, work, and go to school. They
volunteer to serve, and although they are students, teachers, neighbors,
sons and daughters just like you; they are also Soldiers who have made a
commitment to answer the call when they are needed.
Our Soldiers answer the call when needed, and serve bravely wherever they are called to action. When their mission is complete, they return home to their communities, and to their families.
Our Soldiers must complete Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training just like every other Soldier in the Army. After their initial training, however they serve part-time at home, where they stand ready for when their State or Nation needs them.
