Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

Your payment(s) may be delayed due to the crash of the system used to process incentives and because it has not been restored to its full functionality.

For details on eligibility and restrictions, visit the national level National Guard SLRP page at the link below, contact a recruiter, your full time unit support staff, or your Battalion Retention Noncommissioned Officer (NCO). https://www.nationalguard.com/tools/student-loan-repayment-program

YOU MUST APPLY FOR YOUR ANNUAL PAYMENT EVERY YEAR YOU ARE ELIGIBLE.
PROCESSING WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL YOU DO!

APPLYING FOR YOUR PAYMENT:
When you are less than 30 days away from your SLRP Anniversary Payment Date, complete the DD 2475 (Section 2 only), obtain your Loan Summary Page and Individual Loan Sheets for ALL loans, even zero balance loans, from https://studentaid.gov, and send them to your full time unit support staff, and/or your Battalion Retention NCO. The form and instructions are the PDFs at the bottom of this page.
DO NOT SEND YOUR DD 2475 TO YOUR LENDERS!

ELIGIBILITY:
In addition to submitting your current loan downloads and DD 2475 to your unit, you must also meet all the requirements of your SLRP Addendum (contract), as well as all applicable laws, policies, and regulations, in order for your lenders to receive payment.

AMOUNT:
The portion or amount of the loans that may be repaid is 15% or $500, whichever is greater, for each year of satisfactory service, plus the amount of any interest that may accrue during the current year. All payments are made to the lending institution and NOT to the Soldier. Repayments inclusive of interest will be no greater than the initial principal balance. Loans in a default status or entering a default status after contract start date are not eligible for repayment. Loans returning to a good standing may be eligible for repayment, depending on your contract addendum. Loan(s) having an outstanding balance less than the calculated authorized repayment amounts are only authorized that amount.

TAXES:
TAXES WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF YOUR PAYMENT BEFORE IT REACHES YOUR LENDER. Your payment is taxable income.

FORBEARANCE and deferment are explained at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/deferment-forbearance
To place your loans into forbearance, complete the Mandatory Forbearance Request Form Template PDF below and send it to your unit full time staff and/or Battalion Retention NCO, who will complete Section 4 and return it to you so that you can send it to your lenders. There are Sticky Note hints in this Adobe PDF with additional instructions.

QUESTIONS:
For questions or assistance with SLRP, contact your full time unit support staff, and/or your Battalion Retention NCO. If they cannot assist you, they should contact the State Education and Incentives Branch to get your question(s) answered for you. You may contact the State Education and Incentives Branch only if your chain of command has been contacted first and have failed to assist you.
