Brigadier General Mark A. Muckey is the Deputy Adjutant General, Iowa Air National Guard. He is responsible to the Adjutant General for directing Air National Guard operations and establishing policy to ensure mission readiness of over 1,950 personnel in accordance with the Department of the Air Force and the State of Iowa to ensure air capability in times of war, national emergency, or other times as national security may require. A member of the Air National Guard since 1984, Colonel Muckey was commissioned through the Academy of Military Science and attended pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Following pilot training Colonel Muckey flew the C-26B with the 138th Fighter Wing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1996 he transitioned to the C-130H with the 137th Airlift Wing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and held the positions of Chief of Tactics, Chief of Training, Chief of Current Operations, and Director of Operations. He transitioned with the unit to the KC-135R in 2008 and then the MC-12 in 2013. Colonel Muckey served as the MC-12 Detachment Commander and was responsible for standing up the new Special Operations mission. Prior to assuming his current position, the Colonel was the Air National Guard Advisor to AMC/IG, Scott AFB, Illinois.

Brigadier General Muckey is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours primarily in the C-130H and KC-135R. He has numerous deployments to include Coronet Oak, Operation Joint Forge, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom and has deployed as the C-130 Theater Mission Director and Chief of Tactics.
