Frequently Asked Questions – Enduring Families
Enduring Families Workshop Brochure

What is Enduring Families?

Enduring Families is a one day workshop that takes place 60-90 days after a Service Member returns from a deployment. This workshop is mandatory for Soldiers. Family member attendance is highly encouraged and appreciated.
 

What is the intent of Endiring Families?

The intent of the workshop is to ease the transition from an active duty lifestyle back to civilian life, to assist families readjusting to each other and their new roles.
 

Who is invited to participate in Enduring Families?

All Service Members are welcome to participate in Enduring Families; currently Enduring Family workshops are mandatory for soldiers returning from a deployment. Family members of these Service Members are highly encouraged to attend. Family members include but are not limited to: spouses, significant others, parents, and adult siblings.
 

Who facilitates this workshop?

Professional Volunteers facilitate the breakout sessions. All breakout session are confidential and have no paid Iowa National Guard staff present.
 

Can youth/teens participate in an Enduring Families workshop?

No. Currently Enduring Family workshops are limited to adult participation. If you are interested in receiving support for your youth/teen or in supporting the Iowa National Guard Youth Program please call 515-252-4040 or email NGIA.FRG.Youth@ng.army.mil or contact your Family Assistance Specialist.
 

What incentives are offered to the family members to attend?

Family members who live one than 50 miles, one way, from the location of the Enduring Family Workshop will be eligible to be put on Invitational Travel Orders (ITO’s). While on these orders they will receive mileage reimbursement at a rate of $0.485 per mile, Per Diem, and will qualify for a hotel room on the Friday night prior to the workshop.
 

Families, who live within the 50 mile radius, one way, can also receive mileage reimbursement at a rate of $0.485.

 

All family members who attend can receive childcare reimbursement at a rate of $2.50 per hour per child for the hours of the training only.
 

Lunch is catered and provided at the location of the workshop.
 

What classes are offered during the workshop?

Each workshop is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will be divided into three breakout sessions:

  1. Soldiers
  2. Spouses/Significant Others
  3. Parents/Adult Siblings

In the afternoon, attendees may choose which facilitated session they wish to attend. These sessions can be attended as families or individually:

  1. Couples Focus Group
  2. Parenting Focus Group
  3. Stress Management
  4. Single Soldier Focus Group
