|
||
CBS Reports, a national news program produced by CBS News, will feature the deployment of the Iowa Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry on Sunday, February 3, in “Fathers, Sons, and Brothers.” The one-hour special will air at 6 p.m. Iowa time on CBS (check your local television listing for the local CBS affiliate). Originally created by CBS 60 Minutes and reported by correspondent Scott Pelley, “Fathers, Sons, and Brothers” follows the deployment of the Soldiers to Iraq and the lives of their families back home in Iowa from the initial alert until the unit’s return to Iowa, nearly 24 months total. The original story aired on CBS 60 Minutes during the May 27, 2007 broadcast. The new version which will air on Feb. 3 will include the unit’s homecoming in Iowa on July 25, 2007, which occurred nearly two months after the initial program’s broadcast. The 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry is comprised of units located in Waterloo (Headquarters and Headquarters Company, and Detachment 1 of Company B), Dubuque (Companies A and D), Oelwein (Company B), Iowa Falls (Company C), and Charles City (Detachment 1 of Headquarters and Headquarters Company). Approximately 560 Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry served on this deployment, with the unit receiving logistical support from an additional 130 Soldiers assigned to Company E, 334th Brigade Support Battalion (Waterloo and Dubuque). The 1st Battalion, 133rd’s core mission is to conduct close combat with enemy forces and provide security of key terrain, facilities, and installations.
In January 2007, the Department of Defense extended the deployment for the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry for up to 125 days, and the unit returned to Iowa on July 25, 2007.
