UNVEILING OF NEW MUSEUM EXHIBIT ON APRIL 14
WORLD WAR I CAMP DODGE: HOME AWAY FROM HOME

The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge will unveil a new exhibit on April 14 to the public in honor of the 90th anniversary of U.S. participation in World War I. World War I Camp Dodge: Home Away From Home, a new exhibit created by the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, depicts the everyday life of U.S. Army Soldiers from 1917-1919 and explains the important role Camp Dodge played in that global conflict. The exhibit will remain on permanent display.

During WWI, more than 200,000 Soldiers (including 37,000 Iowans) spent time at Camp Dodge through induction into or discharge from the U.S. Army, as well as receiving combat training for the European theater. The display includes original uniforms, equipment, photos, artifacts, and visual displays of life at Camp Dodge.

Please use the NW 70th Street entrance, which is open 24 hours a day. Photo identification is required to gain admittance to Camp Dodge (a driver’s license is acceptable).

Established in 1985, the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum is the only federally-recognized repository for military artifacts in the state of Iowa. The mission of the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum is twofold: to preserve Iowa’s military history and honor the military service of all Iowans.

The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum’s permanent exhibits tell the stories of Iowans who have served in defense of their state and nation, beginning with the early settlement of the state in the 1840s, through the Global War on Terror. An extensive exhibit honors the 34th Infantry Division (“Red Bull” Division), which holds the distinction of serving the most continuous days in combat of any division during World War II. The museum also contains one of the finest military small arms collections in the Midwest. Additionally, an exhibit detailing the history of the Iowa State Patrol is also on display.

Group tours are welcome and available by appointment; contact the museum for scheduling. For additional information or questions about the upcoming Memorial Day observance at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, contact the Museum at (515) 252-4531 or visit the museum website at www.iowanationalguard.com
