GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR NEW FORT DODGE FIELD MAINTENANCE SHOP

The Iowa National Guard will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, for renovations to its existing Field Maintenance Shop (FMS) #11 and additional new construction, 1659 Nelson Ave, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Brig. Gen. Mark Zirkelbach, Deputy Adjutant General of the Iowa Army National Guard, and representatives from the Iowa delegation, state, and local governments will participate in the ceremony.

The existing 4,154-square foot masonry building will be remodeled and a 6,110-square foot, one-story addition will be added. The FMS compound will also be expanded to the south and west by approximately .77 acres to provide additional parking and new access to Nelson Ave.

The facility’s primary space includes a drive-through vehicle maintenance bay for military vehicles, including semi-trucks and trailers, with a 7.5 ton overhead bridge crane. The facility also includes space for an administration office, classroom/breakrooms, restrooms, lockers, supply, tool storage and other vehicle work bays. The existing mechanical and electrical systems will also be replaced and/or upgraded.

The public and media are welcome and encouraged to attend the groundbreaking ceremony

The construction cost is $1,538,000 with completion anticipated early- to mid-summer 2007. The facility was designed by FEH Associates of Des Moines, in conjunction with Farris Engineering of Des Moines for mechanical and electrical systems, and Snyder & Associates of Ankeny for site work. Primary contractor for this remodel/expansion is Kolacia Construction Inc., Fort Dodge.

The existing building was built in 1954, with the wash bay added in 1990. Exterior walls will include concrete wall panels with brick veneer highlights to match the adjacent Fort Dodge Readiness Center facility.
