COMMUNITY HOMECOMING CEREMONY PLANNED FOR
IOWA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIERS

Approximately 80 Soldiers from the Iowa Army National Guard’s 134th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) are completing demobilization processing from federal active duty in Iraq and are scheduled to return to Iowa from Fort McCoy, Wis. on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The Soldiers are scheduled to arrive at Washington High School, 313 S. 4th Avenue, Washington, Iowa at approximately 6 p.m. The welcome home ceremony will begin promptly upon their arrival, and the Soldiers will be released to their families immediately following the ceremony. The public and media are welcome and encouraged to attend this welcome home ceremony, and wellwishers are invited to greet the buses as they enter Washington via Highway 1, to Madison Street, then north on Iowa Street to the town square, west on Washington for one loop around the square, then east on Washington to 4th Avenue, then 4th Avenue to Washington High School.

The 134th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) was ordered to active duty under a partial mobilization call-up that authorizes the president to order members of the National Guard and Reserves to active duty for one year. Based in Washington, Iowa, the 134th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) evaluates casualties, performs basic medical treatment and sustainment of life, and provides transportation for injured and sick personnel in a theater of operations. The unit previously deployed in 1990-91 for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

These Soldiers departed Iowa in early August 2005 for their mobilization station at Fort Sill, Okla. in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism and arrived in the Iraq theater in October 2005.
