FUNERAL SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR IOWA NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER KILLED IN IRAQ |

Funeral services have been scheduled for Ogden, Iowa native Sgt. Daniel L. Sesker, 22. Sesker was killed when insurgent forces detonated an improvised explosive device directly adjacent to the vehicle in which he was the gunner, near Bayji Iraq on April 6, 2006. He was assigned to the Iowa Army National Guard’s Troop C, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry, LeMars, Iowa. Funeral services are scheduled as follows:Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, April 17, at the Ogden High School gymnasium, 732 W. Division St., Ogden. The funeral service, with military honors, will be held Tuesday, April 18, at 10 a.m., also at the Ogden High School gymnasium. Sgt. Sesker will be interred at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa, in a private ceremony. Daniel LaVerne Sesker was born on April 15, 1983, in Boone Iowa, the son of Mysty (Harper) Stumbo and Dennis Sesker. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 2001 and attended college at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Dan enlisted as a Cavalry Scout in Troop B, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry in August of 2000. He was deployed to Kosovo in 2003 as part of Operation Joint Guardian. In July of 2005, Dan, who was originally a member of Troop B, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry, volunteered to be attached to Troop C, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry, LeMars, Iowa, for Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, he served as a gunner in the Task Force 49th Military Police Battalion Personnel Security Detachment. Between the Kosovo and Iraq tours of duty, Dan worked as a counselor at the Woodward Academy and as a part-time police officer in Gowrie, Iowa. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge. Dan is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mysty (Harper) and Marvin Stumbo of Ogden Iowa; father Dennis Sesker of Boone Iowa; fiance Angelique Garey of Ogden Iowa; brother and sister-in-law Pfc. Thomas and Sara Sesker stationed in Hawaii; sister Jennifer Sesker of Ogden, Iowa; stepsister Amie Stumbo in Sandston, Virginia; stepbrother Brian Stumbo of Cedar Rapids Iowa; grandparents Jean Harper of Boone Iowa, and Bud and Diane Harper of Creston, Iowa; and many friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Stanley and Violet Sesker. The Sesker family asks that their privacy be respected at this time.
