The Camp Dodge base hospital situated on a 45 acre complex was organized August 28, 1917 and construction was completed at the end of October 1917. Here they treated all cases arising in camp or overseas. It was laid out in “U” shaped formation with 4.5 miles of covered walkway between the southern exposed wards, all of “which deemed healthful.” (Grover 1987) Please click on the building outlined in white for more details about the Red Cross. The following image, looking south, shows the the base hospital complex with the rows of wards lined up on the right side of the image and the nurses and officer's quarters on the left. |
