FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) regarding Tuition Assistance

  • Question: How much money can I receive in a year? (Pertains to FTA and NGEAP)
Answer: Visit www.iowanationalguard.com, click Army Education tab, click Tuition Assistance tab, read under the FUNDING section. NGEAP generally goes up every year, ARNG-FTA $250 per credit hour, $4,500 per fiscal year.

  • Question: How do I apply for ARNG-FTA, NGEAP, and Scholarship?
Answer: www.iowanationalguard.com, Tuition Assistance tab and Scholarship tab

  • Question: When will I know if I’ve been approved for Tuition Assistance?
Answer: There should be two emails sent for NGEAP. The first email will tell me that the Education Office has received my application; the second email will tell me that it has been approved or denied. For ARNG-FTA, there should be an email sent, if no email has been received I contact my unit.

  • Question: Who is paid the money for Tuition Assistance?
Answer: Only the school gets paid directly.

  • Question: When is the money paid for tuition assistance? How long does it take?
Answer: For NGEAP usually the school will request the money after the drop / add date. For ARNG-FTA, if I have signed up for FTA within 30 days of the class start date, the Education Office will pay the tuition before the class starts. Otherwise depending on the situation could be longer.

  • Question: Where do I turn in my grades? When should I turn them in?
Answer: Grades can be sent to the education office email: educationia@ng.army.mil, by regular mail, or via fax. I must send in my grades with 30 days after I have completed my courses.

  • Question: How do I get college credit for military schools I’ve attended or for military experience?
Answer: Visit www.iowanationalguard.com, click Army Education, and then click Military Training Credit tab. If my schools are not listed in my file, I need to call the 1-800 number posted on the web site.

  • Question: What college assistance (tuition, GI Bill, etc) am I eligible for?
Answer: I can use tuition assistance with my GI Bill, kicker and ROTC stipend.

  • Question: Who should I contact if I have questions?
Answer: Your unit should always be your first point of contact. If you have contacted them and still have further questions, please call 515-252-4468 or email Educationia@ng.army.mil.

  • Question: How does a deployment affect my benefits?
Answer: First, notify the education office if you are currently receiving Fed TA benefits so we can work with your school. Most schools waive remaining tuition costs in the event of a deployment – BUT NOT ALL. Second, during the mob process I should receive a briefing, that tells me all enlisted personnel will apply for FTA using “GoArmyEd” and officers will still use the FTA program through the State Education Office.
