Chief Warrant Officer James Goodwin
Chief Warrant Officer James Goodwin is the Bandmaster of the 34th Army Band. Chief Goodwin received his Bachelors Degree in Music Educaton at Eastern Michigan University and a Masters Degree in Music Educaton at Drake University. He has been a member of Army Bands while serving on active duty in Maryland and Germany, and has been a member of the Michigan Army National Guard band. Goodwin teaches band in the Des Moines Public School system. He is also an active composer/arranger. Goodwin is married and has 3 children.

First Sergeant Gregory L. Hanshaw
First Sergeant Hanshaw was born and raised in Fairfield, Iowa. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1979, and The University of Iowa in 1983 with a degree in Parks and Recreation Management. He joined the 34th Army Band in 1980, and completed Basic Training and AIT at Ft. Dix and Ft. Leonard Wood. The First Sergeant married Julie Holmes in May of 1981, and they have two children, Benjamin and Natalie.
First Sergeant Hanshaw has served the 34th Army Band as a trumpet player, trumpet section leader, and brass group leader. He has completed a variety of NCOES and correspondence courses; to include PLDC, BNCOC, and ANCOC. He has traveled and performed with the 34th Army Band throughout the United States, as well as to Italy and Greece on ODT missions. He assumed his duties as First Sergeant and Enlisted Bandleader of the 34th Army Band in January, 2002.
